Enabling Internet Information Services (IIS) components

You must enable the Internet Information Services (IIS) components listed on this page on the M-Files Web server before you can set up web and mobile access.

Before you begin:

  • If you use M-Files Web (instead of the classic M-Files Web), you must also have the URL Rewrite and Application Request Routing IIS modules installed on the IIS server.
  • Feature names and groupings can be different between operating system (OS) versions.

Here are the steps to enable the features on Microsoft Windows Server 2019. In other Microsoft Windows versions, the settings can be shown under different names or locations: Refer to the relevant Microsoft instructions.

  1. Open Server Manager.
  2. In the Dashboard view, select Add roles and features.
  3. In Before You Begin, select Next.
  4. In Installation type, select Role-based or feature-based installation and select Next.
  5. In Server Selection, select your server and select Next.
  6. In Server Roles, enable the roles listed here.

    Web Server (IIS) > Web Server > Common HTTP Features Default Document
    Directory Browsing
    HTTP Errors
    Static Content
    HTTP Redirection
    Web Server (IIS) > Web Server > Performance All roles
    Web Server (IIS) > Web Server > Security Request Filtering
    Basic Authentication
    Windows Authentication
    Web Server (IIS) > Web Server > Application Development All roles
    Web Server (IIS) > Management Tools All roles
  7. In Features, enable the features listed here.
    • .NET Framework 4.7 Features > .NET Framework 4.7 (or a later version)
    • .NET Framework 4.7 Features > ASP.NET 4.7 (or a later version)
    • IIS Hostable Web Core
  8. Select Next.
  9. Select Install.
  10. When the installation is complete, select Close.
You now have the neccesary IIS components installed. Next, you can enable web and mobile access on the selected server computer.
